ATTENTION COACHES:
When you or your students drop off skates that need adjustment to the toe (lift angle) of the blade, please allow for extra time (days) and please ask for a “Dave Sharp”. We have multiple high level employees who have been providing high end services for over a decade but for this specific request, please ask for the service to be done by Dave. This service also carries an extra charge of $10
WHAT SHARPENING IS BEST FOR ME?
Despite what many people think, there is no right answer to this question. It all comes down to personal preference. Every skater has to find out what works best for them. This is easier said than done. But, we are here to help you and educate you through the process.
HOLLOW
The hollow refers to the measurement of your sharpening. Without getting too scientific, the hollow ultimately determines how much blade digs into the ice while you are skating. the deeper the hollow, the “sharper” the feel when skating on the ice.
The hollow is measured in fractions of an inch. the smaller the fraction, the “sharper” and more bite you get.
COMMON HOLLOWS
The most common hollows we use for figure skaters are 3/8″ and 7/16″ but they are not the only ones. 3/8″ being the smaller number will give you a deeper “sharper” feel. 7/16″ is very close to 3/8″ but will give a little less bite and more glide.
